ABOUT STARTUP LISBOA
Startup Lisboa is a private non-profit incubator founded in 2011 and inaugurated in February 2012 by Lisbon City Council (through the Lisbon Participatory Budget), Montepio and IAPMEI, supporting pre-seed and early-stage startups across all sectors with office space, mentorship, and access to its investor and partner network. It operates Startup Lisboa Tech and Startup Lisboa Commerce and is the managing entity of the Hub Criativo do Beato, where it has relocated much of its incubation activity. By its tenth anniversary in 2022 it had incubated more than 400 startups (from 4,500+ applications), supported 250+ projects through acceleration programs, and its startups had created around 4,500 jobs and raised roughly €340M in venture capital; about 70% of resident companies remain active. Companies associated with the incubator include Uniplaces, Codacy, Hole19, Indie Campers, Defined.ai, and 360imprimir. Executive director Gil Azevedo took over from Miguel Fontes in May 2022 and also leads Unicorn Factory Lisboa, the city's scale-up initiative launched in 2022. Rather than acting as a fund, Startup Lisboa concentrates on the earliest phase of company building, connecting founders to mentors and investors.
